Horus Rising (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy) Dan Abnett
Publisher: Games Workshop

For my latest review, Beasts of War set me the task of finding out what would be the best book to act as an introduction for someone new to the background of the 40k universe. Let's start with the four authors who brought us the opening trilogy of the series and the first (concurrent) novel following on from them: Dan Abnett (Horus Rising), Graham McNeill (False Gods), Ben Counter (Galaxy in The first two of this quartet are among the most prolific writers currently working within the Warhammer 40,000/Warhammer Fantasy Battles IPs, as they seem to have at least 2-3 publications releasing every year, which is nothing short of remarkable. Enter Horus Rising, first book in the successful Horus Heresy series, and written by one of the giants of the Black Library, Dan Abnett, who also wrote the Gaunt's Ghosts series and the screenplay for the recent Ultramarines movie. 40k.com - Upcoming Horus Heresy Audio Books Horus Rising (Abridged Audio) It is the 31st millennium. It's a conflict that many who play Warhammer 40,000, or who read the excellent books will recognise, and the game is played on a suitably large board that's split into a number of different areas. Over sixty novels and short story anthologies are published by the Black Library, a subsidiary of Games Workshop, who also published the now out-of-print comic book Warhammer Monthly and short story magazine Inferno. I am not sure how any long time 40K gamer can turn away from the amazing Horus Heresy world that Black Library and Forge World has created. The various counter-based Board Games, including Battle for Armageddon (and the add-on Chaos Attack), Horus Heresy, Doom of the Eldar, Warmaster, Arena of Blood, and Relic. What continues to amaze me about Mr Abnett is the breadth of his writing ability – whether it is a Horus Heresy novel, a Gaunt's Ghosts novel, a Warhammer fantasy novel, or something entirely of his own creation (e.g., Triumff): the most consistent trait is that it is always of extremely high quality. They also weren't lying when they said that it was "a time of legend". (the opening lines of Horus Rising) “I was there.” Such a powerful statement, Dan is just a machine when it comes to cranking our novels, and he turns them out at a frenzied pace (maybe he really is part machine..but that's another story). A description of tropes appearing in Warhammer 40000. When it comes to shared world Anyone who has been in the gaming hobby is probably familiar with the Warhammer 40K game and the mythos that surrounds the game, even if it is just at a surface level. The Horus Heresy novels have taken great pains to tell us that the Heresy was the greatest tragedy of Warhammer 40000. Each of his Horus He also has a tendency to expand the Warhammer 40,000 lexicon, adding ever-more phraseology that will be used in many future novels by other authors.
